Wyndham Destinations opens its first resort in Portland Oregon

Wyndham Destinations has opened its doors to its newest resort based in Oregon U.S. The Urban WorldMark by Wyndham Resorts is the company’s eighth Oregon based property and the first ever timeshare resort in the city.

CEO of Wyndham Destinations, Michael Brown attended the opening, which was attended by owners and guests. Portland marks another Urban location for the Wyndham portfolio, which also includes San Francisco, New Orleans and New York.

The consumer Advocacy group the Better Business Bureau has issued a warning over the actions of a timeshare exit company.

An elderly couple from the U.S. had enjoyed their vacation timeshare in New Jersey for 14 years. But when the annual maintenance fees more than doubled to over $1,500 a year, they found themselves out of pocket and struggling to keep up with the payments.

A man from Florida has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud, and could  face up to 20 years behind bars.

The telemarketing scam, largely targeted Spanish speaking victims throughout the U.S who wanted to sell their timeshare properties. Jamie Frieri 49, has plead guilty to commit wire fraud and could face a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison.

Timeshare workers rallied in Honolulu to demand a better contract and better job protection for workers at the Hilton Hawaiian Village.

Hundreds of workers and community allies gathered Friday to show strength and solidarity as Hilton Hawaiian Village workers prepare for another round of contract negotiations with the company. The rally also included workers from The Modern Honolulu who are protesting the layoff of 78 workers as owner, Diamond Resorts, seeks to convert the hotel into a timeshare.

Detectives investigating the murder of notorious timeshare fraudster John ‘Goldfinger’ Palmer, have appealed again for information.

John Palmer was murdered before he could face a multi-million fraud trial in Spain. He was due to be a ‘Key defendant’, but now the trial has concluded, police are reissuing the appeal. A scammer who targeted vulnerable timeshare owners desperate to offload their burdens, stole the identity of a lawyer from Florida to make his scam appear legitimate.

The scammer would call people who had placed ads to sell their timeshares and tell them their property could be sold if they forwarded closing costs to the lawyer, David Eaton, the Tampa Bay Times reports. Eaton, a former prosecutor and now an estate planning lawyer, learned of the scam several years ago when he got a call from the Florida Bar, according to the article. The daughter of a pensioner was so horrified to learn that Diamond Resorts sold her father $250,000 worth of points, she contacted the FBI.

In December last year, a daughter from the U.S. sent a complaint to the FBI, describing how her 88 year old father had agreed to buy a timeshare points product for $250,000. He has since, lost his wife and is suffering with Dementia and living in a nursing home.

The State of Tennessee, U.S. has warned residents to be on alert if they own a timeshare. The Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance say’s there is a big problem with people being scammed in their State and timeshares ranked amongst its highest complaint category.

While most victims are owners trying to sell their timeshares, the department also receives high numbers of complaints from buyers. They say these include high pressure sales tactics and misrepresentations about their contracts.
