In a press release on the UK governments website, it claims teletext will face legal action if it does not pay back over £7 million to customers whose package holidays were cancelled due to the pandemic.

Travel operator Tui have reported half-year losses of £261 million along with a fall in summer bookings.

Tui has reported a loss of £261 million for the six months to the end of March. This is up from £148 million in the same period a year ago. The travel operator has also suffered because of the grounding of Boeing’s 737 Max aircraft, the operator has warned this could cost them a further £261 million in losses.

Airline Passengers will pay an extra 50p on each ticket to fund travellers who need to be repatriated when their airline goes bust.

After the collapse of Monarch Airlines in 2017, the department for transport set up The Insolvency Review. The purpose of the review was to look at ways of protecting passengers from being stranded when their airline carrier collapses. The review recommended a ‘Flight Protection Scheme’ which will foot the bill for future airline collapses.

Tens of thousands of passengers are facing major disruption after a drone attack grounded flights. Gatwick airport said 11,000 passengers on 760 flights were delayed when authorities noticed two devices flying over the perimeter fence. Gatwick closed its runway Wednesday night just after 9pm, when the drones were spotted, in what police say is a deliberate act of disruption. The runway briefly opened in the early hours of the morning, but closed again 45 minutes later when another drone was spotted. UK Flights with Primera Air have been cancelled, as the airline ended more than 200 flight routes from Birmingham Airport, affecting thousands of passengers.

Just 4 months after launching flights from Birmingham airport, a budget airline has announced it is scrapping flights to all 7 destinations in the Mediterranean and Canary Islands.

Primera Air says the services will end during September and October. An average passenger drop of 1800 a day in the first half of this year, compared to last, is said to be the reason why.

The UK ECC is an agency funded by the European Union and is advising British holidaymakers affected by flight cancellations that EC Regulation 261/2004 legislation protects consumers against disruption and financial loss.
