Airline Passengers will pay an extra 50p on each ticket to fund travellers who need to be repatriated when their airline goes bust.

After the collapse of Monarch Airlines in 2017, the department for transport set up The Insolvency Review. The purpose of the review was to look at ways of protecting passengers from being stranded when their airline carrier collapses. The review recommended a ‘Flight Protection Scheme’ which will foot the bill for future airline collapses.

Travel operator Tui have reported half-year losses of £261 million along with a fall in summer bookings.

Tui has reported a loss of £261 million for the six months to the end of March. This is up from £148 million in the same period a year ago. The travel operator has also suffered because of the grounding of Boeing’s 737 Max aircraft, the operator has warned this could cost them a further £261 million in losses.

UK Flights with Primera Air have been cancelled, as the airline ended more than 200 flight routes from Birmingham Airport, affecting thousands of passengers.

Just 4 months after launching flights from Birmingham airport, a budget airline has announced it is abandoning flights to all 7 destinations in the Mediterranean and Canary Islands.

Primera Air says the services will end during September and October. An average passenger drop of 1800 a day in the first half of this year, compared to last, is said to be the reason why.

Ryanair has announced a total of 16 flight cancellations tomorrow, as pilots vote to strike for a third day. With more strikes arranged in the coming days, Ryanair Chief Executive doesn’t seem to be backing down or wavering from his unsympathetic tone, threatening striking workers with job loses if it continues.

This comes after the airline reported a 22 percent fall in profits during the first quarter.

Irish pilots are due to strike tomorrow and cabin crew in Belgium, Portugal and Spain are due to strike on Wednesday and Thursday. The airline have had to cancel a further 600 flights. … Read more

Ryanair is facing legal action after being accused of Daunting passengers attempting to claim hundreds of pounds worth of flight delay compensation from the airline.

This comes after the Irish carrier was asked for an apology and damages, after the airline sent letters to its customers who had attempted to obtain compensation due under EU legislation.

Ryanair is informing the customer they will receive the full compensation by going direct to the airline.
